I've been in the loan business since 1992. I started out in higher risk residential lending with Beneficial Finance stayed there for five years, and from there worked I expanded my knowledge by working for banks and credit unions for the next seven years and from there went into the broker world until 2007-2008. I returned to the retail side, (dealing directly with consumers) doing loans for the general public for the next seven years and after funding over 2500 loans, I’ve spent the last several years focusing on the reverse mortgage.
I was introduced to the reverse mortgage world by accident. The house next door to me went up for sale in 2010 and I thought it would be the perfect home for my parents to move into. A big garage to house my father’s Ariel motorcycle collection and a bigger home for my mother.
Except for one problem. Their existing home they could net $350k but the home next door was selling for $500k. They didn’t have the difference of $150k in the bank and their income was not enough to qualify for a home loan.
I looked for a senior citizen home loan program and found the reverse mortgage for purchase option. Which in a nutshell is a large down payment, for example 50%, and no payments on the balance of the loan and income qualifying is much more lenient than other loans. Perfect! They could qualify for that.
One more problem. Mom wasn’t ready to move right away and the home next door sold. I took my reverse mortgage for purchase knowledge and put it to work for other families and have been educating the Realtor community about this rarely used option ever since.
I than learned about the other situations on how a reverse mortgage can benefit senior families such as using it for income supplementation, an additional option to finance long-term health care and giving gray divorce couples an option on how to solve buy-out issues when there is a lack of income keeping them from qualifying for a traditional loan.
I am a fierce advocate for the senior community and I’m passionate about the reverse mortgage and how it can improve people’s lives and I am dedicated to educating the Realtor community and my surrounding general community on how this loan can solve multiple types of issues seniors face on a daily basis.
Outside of work, I love coaching both my daughter's youth sports teams and follow my beloved Dodgers and Lakers.
I treat my clients like I treat my family, and I wouldn't recommend a loan to one of my clients that I wouldn't recommend to my own parents.
